Documentary Photography Sessions

Limited sessions available!

A LITTLE BACKGROUND: For those of you who missed it, my family’s life was recently turned upside down.  My husband underwent an emergency surgery and subsequently received a cancer diagnosis. He is currently going through chemo and will have a second surgery at the end of the year.

With the exception of my previously contracted birth clients, I’ve had to push pause on booking regular sessions.  But with medical bills piling in, my family is relying on my income. My usual non-birth sessions typically take place during daybreak or sunset and require a lot of planning and additional post-session work.  With my caregiver role requiring more of me, I need more flexible sessions…which is why:

For a limited time, I’m offering a special on documentary photography sessions.

How Do Documentary Sessions Differ from Other Sessions?

  • Price: For these sessions you pay a flat, heavily discounted fee of $650.  My typical sessions require a booking fee and then clients choose a package of digitals with print credit.  Most spend around $1K when working with me.

  • The amount of images you receive:  For these documentary sessions, you will receive a minimum of 35 high resolution files, but likely many more.  Comparatively, my typical mid-range package for other sessions has a cap at 35 digital images (and requires a 1K investment.

  • Pre-session prep work: I will provide you with information about what to expect, but, due to the nature of these sessions, I do not need to provide wardrobe or extensive pre-session support.  The session will be at your home or a pre-agreed upon location in the Charlottesville/Scottsville area.

  • Timing: For styled and posed sessions, I generally prefer to photograph at daybreak or sunset.  For documentary sessions, we will be photographing during more typical daytime hours.

What to Expect When Booking a Documentary Session

  • We decide on a date and time. You reserve your session by paying half the fee and signing my contract. The final fee is due the day of our session.

  • Think about if you want to do a special activity while I’m over or if you want life to unfold as it usually does.

  • I join you. We chat, laugh, and have a good time.

  • Your memories are delivered to you in a specially curated online gallery.

When you book a documentary session, you get one-of-a-kind photographs that preserve the beauty that is unique to your life and you support my family during a challenging season.

Some restrictions to note:

These documentary sessions may not be used as “event photography.”

I am only offering a limited number of the sessions. Currently, I have space for five documentary clients. I may open my book later for more of these sessions, but that availability is not guaranteed.

These sessions must be scheduled between now and the end of September. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Session location must be local to me.
